Pharmacy Technician-(Compounded Sterile Preparation)

These Pharmacy Technicians will act on a broad delegation of authority in order to manage and organize activities of the IV room including:
planning, organizing, documenting and reviewing IV room training, competencies, regulatory compliance, policies and processes. The incumbent will independently gather, evaluate, and analyze data to generate quality assurance and performance improvement reports associated with sterile compounding activities for presentation to management. Duties include but not limited:
Using aseptic technique, compounds uncomplicated and/or complicated parenteral admixtures in the form of large volume, small volume, infusion syringe or another modality as required. Prepares sterile ophthalmic preparations and other complex sterile pharmaceuticals such as total parenteral nutrition and cardioplegia solutions. The Specialist technician conducts glove fingertip and media fill testing:
appropriate aseptic technique is assessed, and test results will be communicated and filed. Also, the specialist will ensure that all staff and students pass didactic, practical skill assessment initially, followed by an annual assessment. The specialist will be responsible for the development of training plans and will keep supervisory staff informed of all individuals not meeting the Standard. The incumbent will maintain necessary forms and records for Laminar flow hood cleaning and certification, clean room environmental monitoring logs, and training records. The process may utilize VISTA and personal computer skills in the generation of reports. The incumbent participates in airborne particulate and microbial testing and surface testing and ensures the cleaning schedules are met. The specialist will be responsible for updating and writing new policies to conform to changing needs in the Sterile Products Program. The specialist will communicate new, as well as changes in policies and procedures to all involved staff members. Work Schedule:

Experience:
A high school diploma or equivalent; or at least 3 months experience. Certification:
Certification by the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) is required at grades GS-6 and above . Preferred
Experience:
Chemotherapy Sterile Preparation experience preferred and PTCB Certification in Compound Sterile preparation preferred. Grade Determinations:
Experience:
One year experience at the next lower level and must fully meet the KSAs at the next lower level. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the following technical KSAs:
Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 1. Ability to evaluate, analyze workflow, and coordinate work activities. 2. Ability to independently gather, evaluate, and analyze data to generate reports and/or for other projects/statistical purposes. 3. Knowledge of pharmacy policies and procedures sufficient to train and orient new employees and other staff 4. Comprehensive knowledge of the operation and care of specialized pharmaceutical equipment. 5. Comprehensive knowledge of the procurement and formulary process. 6. Comprehensive knowledge of investigational drug policies and procedures. 7. Comprehensive knowledge of controlled substance policies and procedures, and the ability to identify and investigate discrepancies in these policies and procedures. 8. Comprehensive knowledge of, and ability to, analyze data in VA information systems. References:

It may be necessary to transport moderate to heavy case items (20-60 pounds) to wards, around the medical center, and pharmacy areas to replenish stock.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
