As a Safety and Security 1 / Safety and Security Officer Trainee, your duties will include:
o Patrol and inspect buildings, grounds, and equipment to monitor and ensure environmental health. o Handle all safety and security issues. o Instruct employees and individuals about emergency fire and safety practices and procedures. o Prevent the endangerment of patients and individuals with disabilities, employees, visitors and property. o Search for and eliminate contraband. o Operate emergency vehicles. o Transport patients and staff on and off the premises. o Complete incident reports and other written reports. o May testify in a court of law or at other hearings. o Utilize computers, cameras, fingerprinting equipment, and complex alarm systems.

Salary Range:
From $36465 to $52460 Annually
Minimum Qualification
Safety and Security Officer Trainee:
Candidates must be reachable on the Safety and Security Officer Trainee eligible list; OR Transfer Opportunity - Candidates must have permanent service as a Safety and Security Officer 1 Grade 12, and be eligible for lateral transfer; OR be eligible to transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. In order to be eligible for 70.1 transfer, candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a qualifying title within two salary grades of the SG-12 level. Appointment Requirements for retention and advancement as a Trainee:
If you are appointed as a Safety and Security Officer Trainee, you must successfully complete a one-year training program, satisfactorily complete mandated Municipal Police Training Council training, other training mandated by law, rules and regulations, and maintain Peace Officer status. New York State Residency and United States Citizenship:
At the time of appointment, you must be a resident of New York State and a citizen of the United States. Employment requires that you maintain your residency in New York State. License Requirements:
At the time of appointment and as a condition for continued employment, you must possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State. Conditional licenses are not acceptable. Peace Officer Requirements:
Safety and Security Officers have peace officer status as authorized under Criminal Procedure Law Section 2.10 and Sections 7.25 and 13.25 of Mental Hygiene Law or Section 455 of Public Health Law. As such, they must meet the requirements for appointment to public office defined in Public Officers Law Section 3 (1) and for continued employment as required in Section 30.
